So, I have been setting myself a large amount of challenges recently in order to increase my productivity and also my happiness. One of the things that makes me happiest in this world is when I achieve what seems almost impossible, completing an illustration. The reason is due to my ultimate fear of imperfect work. I have the mentality of a lazy perfectionist. It causes a great deal of grief when I try to be creative.
So for the past few weeks, I have been setting myself a little challenge of creating an illustration every day. I will be posting a few of my other pieces in a seperate post. But this is the one that I started and finished today. I have been learning to be a little less OTT with detail and more so seeing what I can achieve when I don’t have an actual image to work from apart from the image in my head. I am a massive sucker for portraits. Especially rendered in ink or water colour. These mediums are perhaps my most favourite when experimenting as you can choose the amount of control and create remarkable patterns. This took me around an hour and a half with drying time included. I am creating more simplified and fluid pieces in order to allow myself the time to remember how to achieve certain techniques. I am very happy with the results in all fairness considering the time and effort. I’m trying not to try if that makes sense.
I’m excited to complete another one tomorrow. Perhaps I’ll start incorporating themes and such. That would be pretty cool to do and most certainly a challenge to think about. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post!
Let me know what you think!
